Non-standard, but interesting relaxation methods during panic attacks self treatment

I have already reviewed the standard methods and they can be found on this site. I also said that they are divided into two types – these that help to understand the attack, not to be afraid of it and know how to act when it began; such methods are: meditation, breathing exercises, physical activity; and there are methods which deal with your subconscious and reveal the deep causes of panic attacks such as complexes, negative patterns and improper vital “settings”, causes of stress, and so on. Today I am presenting interesting non trivial methods to combat panic attacks and anxiety states. As always, everything is based on my own experience.

The first method of relaxation for many people, especially conservative ones, may seem ghastly stupid, but it is a psychological technique that is recognized and used by psychologists. I did not immediately know about it, but it came down gradually. It all began with the fact that when cleaning up the house I have found the old dried-up gouache paints of my sister’s when she was still in junior school. I blew them up with water from under the tap and the paint was ready. But I did not have a brush and I decided to read about drawing as a method of relaxation at Google. I found a lot of interesting things, and although I am not painter, I really liked it the idea of painting and I was terribly excited to paint. On the Internet, I found that psychologists recommend drawing with … your fingers! That’s right, you dip your finger into the paint you want and smear on the paper. It is believed that in this way unleashed emotions that once climbed into the head find the way out. You can draw on a specific topic, but you can simply draw just the way you like. I drew a certain theme that I came up with and what happened – judge for yourself. The first topic was “fear”, the second topic was – “panic attacks”.

I do not know if it helps to cure anxiety and panic attacks, but I felt very excited and happy with this drawing. The next time I should try to draw something on a positive topic. I also advise you to do it alone or tell your close ones in advance so that they do not think that you are already going insane. 🙂

For those who do not like this method, I advise you to use simpler and more accessible, and most importantly, you have already practiced it before. Interested what is this? Easy! This method is a reading a book. That’s right, read fiction or anything you like. In general, it is very important for the restoration of the nervous system to keep the alternation of work and rest, and the rest must be divided into passive and active. Book is exactly perfect way of passive rest. It is much better than a TV or computer game in terms of calming the nervous system. No one tells you not to watch a TV or forget about a laptop, but the book may be one of the types of your vacation. For example, when I was at my grandmother’s, I found a book of the 60s of the last century. I started reading it and … became interested. This is not a TV. When you are there in the book, you are experiencing all the events as if you are a character of the book yourself, distract from reality and this is a special feeling that is difficult to convey by words. I also found information that reading allows you to well offload and reassure the nervous system. Remember, did you like to read in childhood and wasn’t taht fun? What prevents you from reading now? You didn’t like to read books in childhood? Try it now 🙂 And I wish you to recover quick.
